Lee Hamilton Grilled Over Building 7

Aaron Dykes / JonesReport.com | November 16, 2007

HAMILTON, OHIO - Former co-chairman of the 9/11 Commission, Lee Hamilton, was grilled about WTC Building 7's collapse-- which was left out of the 9/11 Commission report-- by several WeAreChange.org members during a speech at Miami University in Ohio. His response to the questions was surprisingly lengthy.

Hamilton admitted the issue with Building 7 "has not been entirely resolved," but deemed it "largely resolved" from the 9/11 Commission's viewpoint because of the initial report by the ASCE & FEMA which essentially blamed fires for the WTC7 collapse and came up with the faulty 'pancake-collapse theory' for the towers.

"They [ASCE/FEMA] gave a very elaborate explanation-- which excluded bombs-- basically related to the intense heat that came from the collapse of the towers. Now, that is not proof and there are many, many theories about Building 7," Hamilton said.

Hamilton refers to "a lot of debate at the time of the 9/11 Commission as to how it collapsed" but admits that it is no where in the report, except perhaps the annex.

Thomas Kean, the other co-chair of the Commission, previously told Infowars reporters that Building 7 was left out of the report because the Commission "didn't see any evidence" of an odd collapse. Where was Kean during the Building 7 debates Hamilton is referring to? Was he plugging his ears during the testimony of numerous witnesses who saw or heard explosions?

Hamilton is still promoting the official theory, but is not as cocky as many other public officials have been in defending it. He states that the Commission "does not believe that the United State government was in any way involved in the destruction of the World Trade towers on 9/11. I have been told, of course, that a number of people do not agree with that conclusion."

The crowd laughs when the man in the audience points out that it is "64% of the country" that does not agree with that conclusion (based on national polls ). Hamilton was, of course, present during testimony-- including closed door testimony-- of witnesses to explosions-- accounts which were also not included in the Commission report because they did not fit into the official narrative.

Apparently, the experts at FEMA and NIST shared Hamilton's difficultly in explaining the collapse as well. FEMA admits that its "best hypothesis" of a fire-driven collapse has "only a low probability of occurrence."

While Lee Hamilton emphasizes the exclusion of bombs in the FEMA report, the hypothesis is obviously worthy of consideration. NIST has now undertaken an official investigation exploring the possibility that explosives were used to bring down Building 7-- but that report is long overdue and no explanation has yet been made public.

In fact, Lee Hamilton did not go too far in defending the official explanation of Building 7, though he did state the Commission 'didn't accept' claims blaming government involvement:

"When you're investigating an incident as complicated as 9/11 and you have literally thousands of people trying to contribute to your knowledge, you don't make every call correct... We're still investigating Abraham Lincoln's assassination. And we'll be investigating the 9/11 Commission...We may not have gotten everything right, I think we got a lot of it right."

Thus, the former co-chair of the 9/11 Commission admits, to a certain degree, that the investigation was flawed and acknowledges that investigation will (and perhaps should) continue as history is written and re-written.
