South Korean hotels to curb CCTV use
UPI | December 11, 2006
SEOUL, Dec. 11 -- Owners of more than 500 South Korean hotels will voluntarily curb their use of closed-circuit TV cameras to assuage privacy worries.
The Korea Hotel Association announced new guidelines Monday that mandate hotels to keep guest rooms, food-and-beverages outlets, restrooms and most of their other in-house facilities camera-free, the Korea Times reported.
The group said CCTV cameras could only be used in certain areas, such as entrance lobbies, casinos and emergency exits.
"We agreed that the cameras will not be installed at any place where the privacy of our customers or employees could be compromised. The idea is to simply eliminate the use of cameras for purposes other than crime monitoring and emergency situations," said Kim Kyu-jin, from the KHA's public relations bureau.
