Rick Santorum Emphasizes "Fear" of Islamo-Fascism JonesReport.com | November 9, 2007 Members of Philly 9/11 Truth confronted former Senator Rick Santorum when he was promoting the 'fear' of Islamo-Fascism in front of a college audience during David Horowitz' 'Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week.' Santorum twisted a student's words who quoted Santorum's own statement which seemingly predicted increased terrorism as a means of cultivating an American attitude accepting of war with Iran. The student cited the establishment's role in "perpetuating" fears. Instead, Rick Santorum tried to brand the student a heretic, asking him to state unequivocally whether or not he "believed" in the fear, insinuating that his doubt in the grossly hyped fear of terrorism made him the problem. Santorum mocked the student, saying "But you're a smart student and you just don't believe the government" for suggesting that such fears were exaggerated and used as a means of psychological terror against the American people.
Another man in the audience cited the irony of dubbing the terrorist threat as 'Islamo-fascism'-- calling it an oxymoron-- because Mussolini defined fascism closely with corporatism and the terrorists living in caves portrayed the antithesis of that idea. Santorum simply rejected this definition, saying that Mussolini's definition of fascism was not 'definitive' and essentially argued that the emotive-response to 'fascism' was fitting enough for the Islamo-threat.
Afterwards, someone asked Santorum about Operations Ajax and Cyclone, wherein the U.S. overthrew Iran in 1953 and radicalized and armed Islamic forces in Afghanistan, respectively. Santorum pleaded ignorance of these well-known declassified operations, but suggested that they were likely justified by the atmosphere of the Cold War. "It's one of those things where, unfortunately in the world today-- in the world period-- your friends wind up being your enemies," Santorum conceded, before adding that the Reagan era underestimated the Islamic threat.
