Ron Paul fund raiser considers Paul a Civil Rights Leader

USA Daily | December 2, 2007

Ron Paul supporter and grassroots fund raising volunteer Trevor Lyman helped make history last month when he promoted a website that helped Paul break records with a 4.2 million dollar ‘money bomb’ on November 5th.

The 37 year old music promoter never voted before but says he was a ‘history buff’ and studied historic figures like Gandhi and paid attention to world affairs.

Lyman says that some of the main reasons he was attracted to Paul was because of his “consistency and foresight to vote against the Iraq war.” Lyman said he’d become disgusted when “Democrats lied about the war” and did nothing to change the foreign policy.

Lyman went from being non political to what he calls a ‘traditional Republican’ supporting more ‘Libertarian and Constitutionalist’ ideals saying that the more he researched Dr. Paul the more he learned about the issues.

Lyman the political novice helped raise Ron Paul another $500,000 on Friday with a last minute website called ‘Rudy’s Reading List’ poking fun at Giuliani’s foreign policy.

Lyman believes Ron Paul will win the GOP nomination and has organized a Boston Tea Party on December 16th to commemorate the Boston Teas Party and protest the ‘inflation tax.’

Lyman says Ron Paul’s call for monetary reforms was also a big reason he was drawn to support Paul. Ron Paul has been critical of the Federal Reserve’s ability to ‘print money out of thin air’ and supports a return to ‘Sound Money’ that is backed by precious metals.

Lyman believes the Tea Party will beat the 4.2 million raised on November 5th and has the ambitious goal of raising 10 million dollars by getting 100,000 people to donate $100 a piece. The website already has almost 23,000 people pledged to donate $100 that day.

The November 5th ‘Money bomb’ had about 16,000 people pledged to contribute but ended up with 38,000 donors raising 4.2 million dollars.

Lyman also said that because contributions are coming from small $100 donations he believes that he can organize monthly fund raising events on this magnitude through November 2008.

Lyman said, “Liberty brings people together”. Lyman points to “Dr. Paul’s opposition to the death penalty because the law is unequally applied” as an example of Paul’s commitment to equality under the law.
