The Onion: 'They Forgot 9/11'… And So Ends Giuliani’s Campaign of Fear

JonesReport.com | February 8, 2008

The satirical Onion reflects on the end of the Giuliani campaign-- a unique platform that dared to run on 9/11 exploitation and the pure 'fear of terror.'

"America's Mayor" leaves the room weeping; the propaganda compels that one should "never forget" the tragedy of 9/11 (as Liberty panics)... yet, it seems "they" did forget. Did the propaganda backfire, or just fall on deaf ears? Only the book keeper seems to notice "all those lives... in vain." Lost-- for what purpose, or for whose benefit?

The Onion certainly seems to suggest that the failed candidate had a role in what is clearly pictured here as something of a fraud. The comment from the peanut gallery about the 'lives lost in vain' is more than dark and biting.

Below the cartoon, the paper issues a phony retraction for "misquoting" Giuliani:

[Giuliani] said "I'm proud that we chose to stay positive and to run a campaign of ideas," not "What does it take to scare you f***ers?"
